‘These are a few of my favourite things!’ (DI Post 30.12.2013)

Lets call this post ‘These are a few of my favourite things!’
Not only is this outfit made up of all my favourite pieces, but it is also jam packed with budget items!
I am a strong believer that you can jazz up the cheapest outfit with quality accessories! In this case, my statement neck art works hard to pull this outfit over the line!
– Print ankle strap flats ($25)
– Boyfriend shorts ($30);
– Hair coloured tassel necklace ($50);
– Hair coloured woven tote; ($120)
– Fluorescent pink blazer ($50) and
– My go to navy blue tank ($40)
This outfit works because it follows a simple rule…
Mix a light (shorts), with a dark (tank), together with a patterned (shoes and necklace) and a bright!

Mixing prints with a colour in common (DI Post 26.12.2013)

I am having a very lovely time relaxing with my husband’s family in Kadina, so my outfit is all about comfort! 

I actually picked these pants upin Kadina for $30 and they have fast become a favourite as they are super comfy and go with most things in my suitcase!

This outfit is also all about mixing prints!
I have mixed three prints by using the one thing they all have in common, cream.
So if you are considering purchasing a pair of print pants this summer (which I suggest you do) make sure they have at least one colour within the print that you already have repeated in your wardrobe so they can work hard for you this summer by being easily matched.

Black, white and cream (DI Post 18.12.2013)

Black and white stripes should be a staple in everyone’s wardrobe this summer!
They give an outfit a contemporary edge, whilst being neutral enough to match with almost anything, including cream, surprisingly black and white stripes love cream!
This black and white military jacket has worked hard in my wardrobe for years, In the past I have generally paired it with denim, navy and yellow, but until recently (one of Nat’s posts) it never occurred to me to wear it with cream, in fact I would have steered clear of the combination!
Now this necklace is a little more beige than cream, but it still works really well.
As well as the complimentary colour combo, the outfit is pulled together by my hair, necklace and shoes all being the same colour.
Finally there is another dimension of interest in that the tendrils of the necklace form a vertical stripe pattern and the jacket has a horizontal stripe. Contrary to popular consensus I love vertical stripes worn with horizontal.

Top tips for wearing your boyfriend shorts this summer (DI post 14.12.2013)

Boyfriend shorts, have you got yourself a pair yet? I know I will be getting a lot of wear out of mine this summer! 

Here are the top tips for wearing your boyfriend shorts this summer:
1) Buy them one size bigger than you normally wear;
2) Wear them with long sleeves, either a blazer or a shirt (cuff the sleeves);
3) Wear a thin belt in a hair colour (blonde,tan or dark brown);
4) Go the mullet tuck – tuck your top or shirt in at the front and leave it out at the back;
5) You don’t need to spend a fortune, I got these for $30 at Cotton On; and finally
6) Even if you don’t think they will suit you, try a pair on,youmay be pleasantly surprised!

Tie your outfit together by repeating the colours in your print (Di Post 11.12.2013)

This unseasonable cold spell has given me the opportunity to get my tights out again! Which I was quite excited about when I realised that both the colour of my tights, and my fav booties where present in this scarf!
I have also included a picture of me without my blazer, to show off my white t-shirt underneath, you can just tell from the picture how structured the T is, this is because it is actually made out of a perforated vinyl.
I wore a beautiful pendant by Sarah Keane designs, underneath my scarf so that if I wanted to take my scarf off during the course of the day I still had something on that would act as a focal point and divide my top.
(Please note that the necklace is sitting too low for me, the main bit should sit just at the end of your sternum, I only noticed after hubby took the photo, but I must have forgotten to fasten it at the right spot, luckily I didn’t remove my scarf today!)

Dare to Double Denim (DI post 9.12.2013)

When Nat (Defined Image) posted some double denim picks back at the beginning of the year, I was like ‘Whoa, the early 90s called and they want their clothes back!’ But do you know what? I have converted……. Big Time!……Nat is always on the money!
Double chambray, both Country Road, both super comfy and both items have become the building blocks for my summer wardrobe!
Ideally a thin belt in a natural hair colour (dark brown, tan or blonde) is a great way to separate matching items like this, however these pants are draw string and don’t have loops. So instead I have split them up with a tasseled necklace, which has a mixture of tan and blonde beads, and silver and gold charms and chains (which is why this piece is so easy to mix and match!).
Lastly I have worn my fav ankle strap shoes, which suit me to a tea and go with almost everything! Can’t believe they were only $25 and I have the mind to go get another pair for when they wear out!

Us shorties can wear maxi’s too! (DI Post 5.12.2013)

Are you short? I am…..really short….like 5ft nada!
If like me you have steered clear of maxi dresses, well, because you’re mini, don’t! I didn’t even need to take this one up (albeit I am wearing 4 inch heels) and don’t you agree It makes me look tall, well maybe not tall, perhaps the word I am looking for is normal, it makes me look normal height!
There are so many out at the moment, and they are the perfect go to item this summer!
This style suits me because it highlights my best feature – my shoulders and décolletage,  and hides my least favourite area – my legs.
I have teamed this with a pair of hair/blonde colour heels, a bangle with the same type of pattern as the dress and a statement vintage clutch. I later teamed it with a pair of giraffe ears…….but that’s a whole other story, one that involves champagne and a photo booth!
So all you shorties out there don’t be afraid to go a maxi!

Super casual to night time glam (DI Post 2.12.2013)

It was our 3rd Wedding Anniversary this weekend, and to celebrate, we decided to have a weekend away (sans baby) at the Stamford Grand in Glenelg.

On Saturday night Ben and I indulged in a bottle of Moet, before heading out for a lovely dinner at Eden. I had planned to buy a new frock to wear, however I made the (sort of) mistake of going into Pari on Jetty Road and purchasing the fabulous cotton necklace Nat (from Defined Image) has been rocking recently.

The look from my husband was enough to know I wouldn’t be buying a dress as well. So with that I went back to our room a little worried that I would be wearing the dress I wore the night before again (oh the horror!) That is until I got a little experimental with my new purchase and a few of the items I had packed in my suitcase!
Voila!!
It’s amazing how some heels and a little sparkle can take some very casual pants from super casual to night time glam! I am also lucky that the shoes I packed tie in well with the necklace I bought, making it look like I knew exactly what I was doing!
This time a year ago I would never even contemplated putting these items together, I would have just worn the dress from the night before again!
So I guess my advice is, don’t be scared to experiment, whether you are out shopping or at home in your wardrobe!
