To ensure your home looks up to the minute and in vogue, at the same time ensuring a timeless look that will not require a refurb in 7 years time, make sure the core elements, as in walls, floors, and expensive furniture are in neutral colours, have timeless style, and are hard wearing (just like your clothes!)
That way you can play around with colour in your more interchangeable and less expensive items. Such as chairs, cushions, artwork, ornamentation and soft furnishings. (Is this starting to sound familiar?)
I was drawn to this space for its simplicity and sophistication, yet also for it’s colour and whimsy! The hardwood floors, crisp white walls, invisible shelves and solid timber table, are the core elements of the room and yet are actually acting in more of a supporting role to the less permanent colourful and whimsical elements.
Colour and whimsy can be found in the chairs, ornaments, artwork and luminaire. All of these items are what make this room current and modern, and all of these items can easily be replaced with less expense!
In this instance only a few colours were used, keeping the space calm and sophisticated. The ‘robin egg blue’ colour of the chairs has then been picked up throughout the artwork, and scattering of orange can also be found in both artwork and ornaments to compliment the blue.
Don’t forget as with clothing, items do not necessarily have to have a colour in common, a pattern will work just as well, in this instance the shape of the luminaire ties in with the legs on the chairs!
