Trying not to look mumsy! (DI Post 17.8.2014)

Well, here I am in my boyfriend jeans again, man are they comfy! I have worn them quite a bit, however I find for me they are harder to work with then skinny leg jeans.

I think because I got them without all the rips, if not worn in the right way they can look a bit mumsy. 

I tried them with my booties, a shirt and a knit yesterday, and the whole day I felt really invisible, like I had become a busy mum that was dressing purely for comfort, (which I am, but I don’t necessarily want to look like that) I want to look modern and current and perhaps even a little edgy.
So today I went for a neon pink blazer to balance out the casualness of the jeans, and point toe flats to balance the masculinity of the jeans. I also think the edginess of the blazer made up for the lack of rips in my jeans.

My favourite ways to style your home with indoor plants. (DI Interior Post 17.8.2014)

One of my fondest memories growing up was my Gran’s house, what I remember most about her house (apart from the delicious warm smells that would waft out of the kitchen, the laughter that you could always hear from the dining room, and the copious amounts of love I received) was her pot plants.

African violets lined the pillow box against the sunny dining room window, a glass terrarium satinprideposition on a table in the lounge room, and without of doubt if there was a corner of a room that received a bit of good sunlight you could be guaranteed to find a pot plant of some description!

My house doesn’t have any pot plants in it, sure I have introduced a few over the years and sure enough they all met their doom. (Claire – you will be pleased to know, Ben just saved the ornamental chilli bush and put it outside, before I killed that too!)

I reached a point a while ago where I said no more indoor plants, however, the house just doesn’t seem as alive as my Gran’s and I wonder if the lack of living things contributes to this.

So after a bit of research into what I may like to have in my house (see pictures), and a little more research into how I may keep them alive (sunlight, drainage hole, not over or under watering and species selection) I feel somewhat confident and enthusiastic that I can bring some more life back into our home and I hope after you read this post, you will too!
Here are my favourite ways to style your home with indoor plants:
  • hanging plants are spectacular and create interest and drama, you could hang up at a variety at different heights, just make sure you water them outside (maybe once a week) 
  • create a cluster of different sized and shaped succulents and cacti, have fun with the pots, just don’t water them too much!
  • create your own terrarium, glass lantern or vases work really well, or if buy one already made, you can even get ones that you can hang!
  • and finally get creative with your pots, even tea cups, biscuit tins and tea pots make great pots provided you drill in some drainage!
