Dressed for success!

Ahh sorry it’s so late I only just got home from work! I was so excited by what I wore today, I just had to share!

This outfit is pretty simple I’m just mixing prints that share not only the same colours, but also similar patterns.

Because both prints had a significant proportion of white in them, I went for a contrasting black top and black pumps with a detailed toe (swoon).

The best bit, is that the toes of my pumps have a very similar pattern to that of my necklace!

A summer dress in winter

My take on a summer dress in winter, I simply added a cardi, boots, tights and a scarf.

The thing that makes this outfit work is the cardi and boots tie in with my hair, and my tights tie in with the darker splodges and tassels on my scarf.

Oh please excuse the wet patch on my dress, I gave my little girl a bath just before my hubby took this photo and didn’t realise it was there, ’till after hubby took the photos and sat back down on the couch)

That ol’ combo

I went for the easy option today, a light, a dark and a print. That’s really my fail proof, go to combo whenever I’m in a rush, which often happens on the days Soph and I have to be out the door by 7.45 to get her to child care and me go work by 8.30!

The print scarf has grey, white and blue in it so it really ties the outfit together, and I picked these flats, because I liked how the prints worked together!

As I have been a bit slack with my website recently, I thought I better include where everything is from on here.

How to wear black shoes well

This season is all about black and white shoes, unfortunately these can be slightly harder to wear than blonde or brown coloured shoes, as they don’t book end your hair (unless your hair is black or white).

An easy way to get around this is wear something else (at the other end of your body) with black or white on it, this could be a necklace like I have done here, a handbag, hat or some detail or colour in your top.

How to wear a masculine plaid shirt

One of my friends asked me how she could wear her red plaid shirt without looking too masculine, so this post is for you Jess!

If you are going to wear something as intrinsically masculine as a plaid shirt, then you need to pair it with really feminine things to balance out all that masculinity!

An easy way to style your plaid shirt, is to wear it like a jacket over a loose flounced top, with necklace, skinny jeans point toe or ballet flats.

Alternatively wear it as a jacket over a dress, or with a skirt. As the dress and skirt are so feminine you can get away with a puffer vest or more masculine shoes.

You can also wear it buttoned up with a short statement necklace over the top. Because the statement necklace is so feminine You can get away with more masculine boyfriend style jeans.

Interiors and fashion are interchangeable

Interiors and fashion are so interchangeable. I saw this bedroom on the Country Road IG page and love how the pastel yellow looks amazing punctuated with grey and black.

I bought these jeans last year and was only thinking the other day, that it was fortunate pastels were in again this Spring/Summer.

This bedroom picture confirmed that all I needed to do to make these jeans a bit more current and edgy was to add some black and grey.

A necklace can be a powerful tool

Do you wear necklaces? I didn’t use to wear them much at all until I learnt how useful they could be!

A necklace can lower or raise a neckline, or in this instance give you a waist and make you look thinner.

If you are wearing a long necklace like this, just make sure it finishes, or its biggest part is located at the top of your rib cage.

I thought to really prove my point, I would show you what I look like with and without the necklaces, don’t I look so much thinner with them on!?

The Statement Top

The statement top, if you are anything like me you have a few, they look fab, and you will always get compliments when you wear them. However, the downside is they can be expensive, hard to mix and match in your wardrobe and so distinctive that they are definitely a once a month kind of item (even that might be pushing it).

I bought this one from FCUK about 4 years ago, my husband told me over dinner tonight that he didn’t believe me, that it must be new as he had never seen me in it.
What a great indicator of how little I have worn it over that period of time!

So if like me you are partial to a statement item, don’t completely stop buying them if you really fall in love with an item, ’cause sometimes that excitement you experience when you purchase a frivolous item is actually worth the money. Rather my advice is to not do it all the time (unless you are loaded lol), because it is unlikely they will work hard enough in your wardrobe to justify the monetary outlay.

I liken them to junk food, only splurge occasionally!

Argh running late, what to wear?

The other day I posted about how to throw an easy work outfit together when you are running late. One of my lovely followers Magda mentioned that when she is faced with this predicament she opts for a dress. So todays outfit is inspired by you Magda.

There is not too much theory behind this outfit except that navy blue, pale pink and a touch of gold look fab together and a plain layering dress (from Coles) gets a new lease on life when paired with a statement necklace and heels!

I just threw on a cape for the walk to and from work.

It’s Showtime

Had a lovely day today at the show, we almost didn’t go because of the weather, glad we did though, because the weather didn’t seem as bad as predicted and Sophie had an amazing day, actually we all did! We spent most of the day walking around the farm animals and food and art exhibits.

It was hard to work our what to wear, it was windy but not cold and my outfit needed to be comfy and practical.

My starting point were my boyfriend jeans, not only are they really comfy, but I knew they wouldn’t show up all the dirt from the dust, food and animals. The cream shirt was an easy option and I figured the olive green puffer vest would keep me warm and my shirt from getting filthy. On it’s own this outfit was a tad dull, so I spiced it up with my gold necklace, ’cause olive green loves gold!
