Beautiful Rio

This is my gorgeous friend (inside and out) Rio.

Rio has a funky, original and edgy sense of style that I love!

Her hair was a shaven platinum blonde quiff, with pink highlights last week and she shaved it all off (as did her Scottish husband Scott) in support of our dear friend Sarah who is beating Cancer’s butt right now!

These two were at a wedding on the weekend, Scott wearing his obligatory Scottish wedding get up (and no ladies Scott’s a traditionalist so there is nothing under is kilt)!

Rio looked like a knockout in her feminine Zara dress that she picked up on their travels in Niece, France, statement neck art picked up at The Fringe this year, and Rio’s signature Vibrams (the shoes) she bought in Milan!

This outfit looks so cool and edgy because the girly feminine dress and earrings are such a contrast against her hair, tattoo sleeve and quirky Vibrams.

You rock Rio, thanks for sharing.

To chop or not to chop? that is the question….

Do you know my hair has only been short for 10 months, yep just before I started blogging I got the chop.

My husband was not a fan at first, but with time has grown used to it. I had almost decided that I would stick with it, when I was scrolling through some pics from last year and thought, hmm maybe I should grow it again, I do miss popping it up in a top knot!

Also my wonderful hairdresser is about to have a baby, and I won’t be able to get it cut for a while, maybe it’s time….

Thoughts?

Happy Father’s Day

Our little family had a wonderful Father’s Day! So I thought I’d include a few of the highlights along with my everyday style.

Today I wore lots of light layers which was perfect as I could whip off a layer as needed.

I really mixed my prints today, but they all had something in common, my top had a navy and white horizontal stripe, my cropped jacket had a black and white horizontal stripe as did my shoes. Then my scarf linked it all together with charcoal, navy and light blue splodges.

Hope all the Dad’s and Grandad’s had a lovely day!

Black, white and blonde

Black and white is big again this summer, which is great, ’cause who doesn’t have plenty of that in their wardrobe?!

It is also easy to add another colour navy, metallics and pastels all work really well and are very much on trend, or if you are a blonde like me, a touch of blonde to your monochromatic look is a non brainer!

Country Road has some great black and white articles, shoes in particular, And the best bit is once this trend is over your black and white pieces will easily assimilate into your wardrobe to become seasonal staples!

Lady in Red……

I always forget how nice this dress looks on, I bought it from Country Road summer 2009/2010 to wear as a party dress. In more recent times it has become more of a winter layering dress, but this is the first time I have worn it this year.

The key to wearing a summer party dress to work in winter, is to balance the frivolity with a blazer and boots. I normally wear charcoal opaques with my boots, but they really stood out against the red dress, so I went with bare knees instead.

It’s amazing what a red dress will do for a ladies confidence, Chris de Burgh was definitely on to something!

It was good while it lasted…….

IMG_7886Don’t you just love this beautiful real leather, tan coloured, asymmetric skirt, I did, that is until I put my thumb nail through it as I tried to pull it down as it was riding up on my way to work!

Yep, I put a big hole in it right near my bum, and then I had to walk around work all day like that, I must have looked very stylish and sophisticated, not to mention very professional! Thank goodness I was wearing charcoal opaques!

This skirt is a little small, hence the riding up, but I have lost a couple of kgs this week, and was excited to be able to squeeze back into it again, especially as it looks so fantastic with blue (orange loves blue don’t you know!) and I have so much blue in my wardrobe, not to mention how easy it is to wear this skirt with my tan boots and necklace!

So what to do now? I paid a whopping $250 for this beauty, I can’t give up hope yet that it can be fixed. I was thinking I could get the talented Miss Rue over at the Tailors Room to perhaps sew a black strip of leather along the bottom, what do you think Rue, would that work? My husband suggested a patch on the inside, not sure about that, but open to any suggestions or recommendations!

A little pick me up for a gorgeous girl!

Remember I said there was no way I could do this blog without the help of my friends, well I am already calling on them to lighten my load, lolz.

Over the coming months you will be meeting many of my friends, haven’t run that past all of them yet but i’m sure they will help me out? I decided to start with one of my best friends Ash, for a couple of reasons, firstly she asked me to go through her wardrobe a few weeks ago and help her utilise her enormous selection of clothes a bit better so I had some pics on my phone ready to go hehehe, secondly because she is gorgeous with a great sense of style, and thirdly because she has had a bit of a crappy week and could use a bit of a pick up!

So…. let me introduce you to Ash, Ash and I have been friends since we worked at a Gourmet Shop together about 6 years ago. Ash is a police officer, massive CrossFit and Paleo addict, (this is why she has such a smoking body) in fact her husband is a part owner of CrossFit Fallen in Port Adelaide (what use is a blog if you cant plug your friends business’).

Ash has a great sense of style and loads of clothes, she finds it easy to dress in summer, and loves getting dressed up to go out in the evening, but come winter her slight frame makes it hard for her to layer up to stay warm without hiding her rocking figure!

She asked me to help her out, sometimes you just need a second pair of eyes and what better pair of eyes than a fashion blogger….right!

I went through her wardrobe and put some daytime winter outfits together for her, trying to utilise as many summer pieces as I could.

I only spent a few hours with her, but she really picked up on everything I said. Since then she has been having loads of fun putting together fabulous outfits, predominantly with clothes she already had but with a few new purchases too. She sent me this one the other day and I love it, she looks smoking hot and super confident!

A little experiment

Ok so I tried the chambray shirt as a jacket again, but this time over a t’shirt and jeans, in my opinion it looks much better.

I guess it all comes back to the idea of keeping things balanced. The shirt is loose and un-structured and likes to be worn with something structured, such as a pair of jeans. I did something else to balance this outfit, as the shirt is fairly masculine and casual it helped that my shoes and necklace were both feminine and dressy.

Now this may seem to be a contradiction, my outfit yesterday was balanced too, the shirt and boots were masculine and the dress and necklace were feminine…..but whether or not something is masculine or feminine will not make it look more or less flattering, that comes down to cut and shape.

Oh dear, I think I have given myself a headache with all this over analysing….

Guin’s advice today, if it looks good wear it!

Hello Spring

Hello spring (let’s try to ignore the less than spring weather shall we?)

Today I was going to talk about wearing a shirt as jacket during spring. However when I saw my less than flattering photo (don’t get me wrong, I don’t think I like awful, just don’t think it is highlighting my best features) I was like hmmm, was this outfit unflattering because my dress clutches in the wrong places, or because the chambray shirt lacks some structure? (I suspect my face might look a bit like pic 3 when I’m having these thoughts….hehehe)

Could it be that a shirt pretending to be a jacket only suits certain body types? I don’t know.. So in the spirit of not leading you up the garden path, with advice like ‘wear a shirt as a jacket this spring, you’ll look fab”, when in fact you might not, I have decided to undertake a little experiment. So tomorrow I will again wear my chambray shirt as a jacket but this time with a pair of jeans and a t’shirt instead.

Rare night out

Ben and I were fortunate to have a night out together last night. I generally love to wear a cocktail dress when we go out for dinner and drinks, but I have put on a little weight recently and I didn’t want to squeeze into an old one, or buy a new one, so I decided to go pants and a top instead.

As I wear these pants and top to work, I had to really dress them up, in order to feel like I had ‘dressed up’. Now I do casually wear this necklace over print shirts, but over a black top it really stands out, and makes the outfit look more like evening wear.

After a lot of trial and error I worked out these pants really like to be worn with point toe shoes, which limited my choices. Having said that they do work well with the pants as both prints share ‘black’ in common. They also help tie my necklace into the ensemble, as both shoes and necklace have ‘tan’ in common.

I generally don’t like to match my shoes with my bag, so my clutch is bright green.
