Unlock Your Style (a little bit starstruck)

I’m currently on a plane to Mount Gambier then on to Robe for work, consequently I finally have a few minutes to do some blogging, yay! (I have airplane mode on and will hit post once we land)

I have the cutest outfit on today, but unfortunately no one to photograph me, hopefully my hotel room will have a full sized mirror.

So instead I’ll show you what I wore last night to Styling You’s book launch of ‘Unlock Your Style’. It was a fabulous event, champagne, nibbles, the who’s who of Adelaide bloggers lol and of course the fabulous and beautiful Nikki (aka Styling You)!

One of the highlights of the night was having the opportunity to meet some of you who follow the page, so nice to chat in the flesh!Xx

After the launch I was lucky enough to join Nikki and a few other fabulous Adelaide blogger at dinner, and you will be pleased to know that considering it was a table of bloggers there was only a teeny tiny bit of phone action going on, instead there was lots of fabulous conversation between an amazing, interesting and very diverse bunch of women!

Now on to the clothes, I wore a dark, dark brown blazer with boyfriends, a T, heels and a statement necklace. So easy, and a winner every time. You see it’s all about contrast and balance, the jeans are casual and masculine, the heels and necklace are dressy and feminine and the blazer is also masculine, but conservative.

But to be honest, I pale in comparison to gorgeous Nikki, and her amazing jumpsuit, white jacket and as she would say ‘show pony’ necklace!

How to wear black shoes well

This season is all about black and white shoes, unfortunately these can be slightly harder to wear than blonde or brown coloured shoes, as they don’t book end your hair (unless your hair is black or white).

An easy way to get around this is wear something else (at the other end of your body) with black or white on it, this could be a necklace like I have done here, a handbag, hat or some detail or colour in your top.

How to wear a masculine plaid shirt

One of my friends asked me how she could wear her red plaid shirt without looking too masculine, so this post is for you Jess!

If you are going to wear something as intrinsically masculine as a plaid shirt, then you need to pair it with really feminine things to balance out all that masculinity!

An easy way to style your plaid shirt, is to wear it like a jacket over a loose flounced top, with necklace, skinny jeans point toe or ballet flats.

Alternatively wear it as a jacket over a dress, or with a skirt. As the dress and skirt are so feminine you can get away with a puffer vest or more masculine shoes.

You can also wear it buttoned up with a short statement necklace over the top. Because the statement necklace is so feminine You can get away with more masculine boyfriend style jeans.

It’s Showtime

Had a lovely day today at the show, we almost didn’t go because of the weather, glad we did though, because the weather didn’t seem as bad as predicted and Sophie had an amazing day, actually we all did! We spent most of the day walking around the farm animals and food and art exhibits.

It was hard to work our what to wear, it was windy but not cold and my outfit needed to be comfy and practical.

My starting point were my boyfriend jeans, not only are they really comfy, but I knew they wouldn’t show up all the dirt from the dust, food and animals. The cream shirt was an easy option and I figured the olive green puffer vest would keep me warm and my shirt from getting filthy. On it’s own this outfit was a tad dull, so I spiced it up with my gold necklace, ’cause olive green loves gold!

Light, Dark, Print and Colour – Fail safe way to put an outfit together!

If  like me you occasionally press the snooze button a few too many times in the morning, or end up standing with your head against the shower screen with hot water hitting your back for ten minutes. Then, just like me you would know that feeling of urgency as you stand in, or in front of your wardrobe trying to work out what on earth you are going to wear and quickly before you are late for work.

My fail safe way to quickly put together an outfit is to grab a light neutral (my top), a dark neutral (my skirt and tights), a print (either the scarf, or if you have a multi-coloured or textured necklace) and a colour (the blazer).

I can find scarfs annoying after a while, particularly when I am working at my desk, which is why I wore the necklace under the scarf. My tan boots tie in really well with the necklace, but are neutral enough to work even when the necklace is covered.

After work I just switched out my boots and skirt for flats and my boyfriends for a more casual (and comfortable) look.
