On top of the wold

I have had the best couple of days at work, and I believe you can see that happiness all over my face!

Not only did I get out of the office to places I haven’t been before (Robe and Mount Gambier) but I also was able to work on a project very different to what I usually do.

I felt anxious and nervous, yet at the same time, very excited and exhilarated, because I was pushed out of my comfort zone, and nailed it! I was also fortunate to work with someone at the top of their game who does this type of work all over the world!

I have been really uninspired at work of late, and consequently really devoted a lot of my energy into my blogging, but days like today, really reaffirm why I spent 8 years at Uni!

I managed a few hours to myself this arvo, so I checked out the Blue Lake, snagged this fab necklace from Holiday ( a lovely little homewares store in the Main Street) before finishing off the day with champagne and cake!

Will be going to bed with a smile on my face today!

One of the best yet…..

One of my best outfits yet, well in my opinion anyway lol, and not a photographer in sight. Sorry for the grainy motel selfie, but just had to share!

This outfit is all about bright, bold and contrasting shapes and colours. From the neon pink blazer, to the geometric necklace and pants, right down to my duel tone pointy toe flats!

Well must depart as co-facilitating a workshop tomorrow at 8.30am!!!!! Signing off from the Melaleuca in Robe!

Geometric shapes…..

Wow how windy is it today! We are going to the pop up playground at Glover Playground, on East Terrace, not sure if it will be very pleasant now.

I was going to wear my gold mesh scarf today but thought better of it and went with a necklace instead. I love how the geometric shapes of the necklace tie in with the print of my pants.

Missing in Action!

I’d like to apologise for my absence recently, Guin’s Everyday Style has become more like Guin’s Every ‘Other’ Day Style! What with illness and crazy work deadlines, I have been too busy too post on here, but more importantly, my husband has had too pick up way more than his fare share of the slack!

At the moment I am waiting for a tram to take me to my friends Cancer fundraiser she has organised, after which I have to take a tram straight back to work again! Sigh….which means my poor husband is doing dinner, bath and bedtime duty all by himself again, third night in a row!

I ummed and ahhd about going tonight, but as my close friend has put in so much effort and there were only limited spaces I didn’t want to pull out, plus I have to go back into work anyway, but the consequence is pretty crappy for hubby….

So with this little moment of nothing time, I thought I would publicly apologise to Ben……

Then go on to show you how you don’t always have to have a colour in common (like I have done in the RHS pic) a print in common (LHS) can be just as effective!

Boyfriend shorts, a shirt and a necklace

How lovely was the weather today?

I went for an easy and comfortable combination of denim boyfriend shorts and a shirt.

To stop it looking too masculine, I teamed it with a statement necklace and girly flats.

My legs were not shorts ready, and it was till after I got out the shower, not having shaved my legs, that I decided to wear shorts.

Whenever this happens I use a thick body moisturiser and smear all over my legs and shave them, I then used some Palmers gradual tanner with bronzer to stop my legs from blinding someone (they were that white!)

Ahh sorry it’s so late I only just got home from work! I was so excited by what I wore today, I just had to share!

This outfit is pretty simple I’m just mixing prints that share not only the same colours, but also similar patterns.

Because both prints had a significant proportion of white in them, I went for a contrasting black top and black pumps with a detailed toe (swoon).

The best bit, is that the toes of my pumps have a very similar pattern to that of my necklace!

A summer dress in winter

My take on a summer dress in winter, I simply added a cardi, boots, tights and a scarf.

The thing that makes this outfit work is the cardi and boots tie in with my hair, and my tights tie in with the darker splodges and tassels on my scarf.

Oh please excuse the wet patch on my dress, I gave my little girl a bath just before my hubby took this photo and didn’t realise it was there, ’till after hubby took the photos and sat back down on the couch)

That ol’ combo

I went for the easy option today, a light, a dark and a print. That’s really my fail proof, go to combo whenever I’m in a rush, which often happens on the days Soph and I have to be out the door by 7.45 to get her to child care and me go work by 8.30!

The print scarf has grey, white and blue in it so it really ties the outfit together, and I picked these flats, because I liked how the prints worked together!

As I have been a bit slack with my website recently, I thought I better include where everything is from on here.

How to wear a masculine plaid shirt

One of my friends asked me how she could wear her red plaid shirt without looking too masculine, so this post is for you Jess!

If you are going to wear something as intrinsically masculine as a plaid shirt, then you need to pair it with really feminine things to balance out all that masculinity!

An easy way to style your plaid shirt, is to wear it like a jacket over a loose flounced top, with necklace, skinny jeans point toe or ballet flats.

Alternatively wear it as a jacket over a dress, or with a skirt. As the dress and skirt are so feminine you can get away with a puffer vest or more masculine shoes.

You can also wear it buttoned up with a short statement necklace over the top. Because the statement necklace is so feminine You can get away with more masculine boyfriend style jeans.

It was good while it lasted…….

IMG_7886Don’t you just love this beautiful real leather, tan coloured, asymmetric skirt, I did, that is until I put my thumb nail through it as I tried to pull it down as it was riding up on my way to work!

Yep, I put a big hole in it right near my bum, and then I had to walk around work all day like that, I must have looked very stylish and sophisticated, not to mention very professional! Thank goodness I was wearing charcoal opaques!

This skirt is a little small, hence the riding up, but I have lost a couple of kgs this week, and was excited to be able to squeeze back into it again, especially as it looks so fantastic with blue (orange loves blue don’t you know!) and I have so much blue in my wardrobe, not to mention how easy it is to wear this skirt with my tan boots and necklace!

So what to do now? I paid a whopping $250 for this beauty, I can’t give up hope yet that it can be fixed. I was thinking I could get the talented Miss Rue over at the Tailors Room to perhaps sew a black strip of leather along the bottom, what do you think Rue, would that work? My husband suggested a patch on the inside, not sure about that, but open to any suggestions or recommendations!
